Two exhibitions dedicated to African art

In an increasingly prominent Milan, now firmly established among Europe’s leading capitals of fashion, design, and art, two exhibitions scheduled for November reaffirm the city’s international and cosmopolitan identity.

Origins – Visions on African Art and Classic Primitive Contemporary, both devoted to classical African art, present a new curatorial approach within the Milanese context, contributing to the recognition of a field that, while internationally acknowledged, has only been intermittently explored in Italy.

The exhibition Origins will be hosted at Luxury Living, Via Durini 11.

The exhibition presents a selection of works from the collections of Anna Demina and Leinuo Zhang, reflecting an international approach to collecting that recognizes both the influence of African art on 20th-century modernism and its ongoing contemporary relevance.

The installation, set within the refined interiors of Fendi Casa, highlights the dialogue between African sculpture and contemporary design.

Classic Primitive Contemporary

Classic Primitive Contemporary will take place at the historic premises of Dalton Somaré Gallery, Via Borgonuovo 5.

For decades, the gallery has been an established presence in the international field of African art, presenting works selected for their quality, authenticity, and historical significance.

A shared vision

The two exhibitions are linked by a common curatorial approach based on:

– a rigorous selection of works
– the relationship between African art and modernist primitivism
– a focus on key regions such as Gabon and Ivory Coast

These areas are among the most important centres of production of major African artworks.
