Dalton Somaré at BRAFA 2022
On the occasion of BRAFA Art Fair 2022, one of Europe’s leading art fairs, Dalton Somaré was the only Italian gallery participating with a selection of classical African art.
The gallery presented a group of wooden sculptures from West Africa, dating from the 17th to the 19th century, reflecting a research approach focused on formal quality, authenticity, and historical significance.
Works on view
Among the works exhibited:
an important Guro mask from Ivory Coast, in wood and pigments, featuring a female figure surmounting the composition
a refined Baule mask, also from Ivory Coast
a Dogon N’duleri maternity figure from Mali, dating to the 17th–18th century
These works represent some of the most significant expressions of West African sculpture.
